"SMACK didn’t announce when they changed their ingredient list. It used to be grain free but sometime recently QUINOA has been added. Thanks to this change with NO warning and NO indication on the packaging (except to read the ingredients - which I hadn’t since I have trusted for years) my basset hound is suffering a severe allergy attack, has gone bald on his entire underside, and is suffering severe gastric distress."

What is the fat contents of the pork. I need a low fat contents.
Thank you for your message, Sandi! Our Prairie Harvest Pork recipe will contain 22% crude fat per 1kg fed. Our lowest options would be either fish recipe at 20% crude fat. Smack is formulated on holistic raw food diets, with added, functional superfood ingredients. Raw diets in general will typically contain higher amounts of fat compared to other styles of food. If your pup requires a low fat diet, we'd suggest running our recipes by your trusted vet or holistic vet to ensure that they are appropriate for long-term feeding.

I buy Salmon Smack as a food topper and as a training treat for 2 standard poodles. It was most economical to purchase the big box size. Should this be frozen in zip bags to preserve freshness? Or will original bag and closed to the air be sufficient. I’m unsure how long it will keep fresh. They are really loving it as a treat and a bit if extra in their ACANA Pacifica/Ooen Farm ancient grain mixture.
Hi Julie, Unopened bags will have an 18 month shelf life, with a best before date stamped on every bag we produce. Once opened, Smack will generally stay fresh for up to 3 months if left in a cool dry place. We encourage keeping the Smack out of sunlight or direct sources of heat as that can cause the food to oxidize. If you know your pet won't eat all of the Smack within 3 months, you can absolutely freeze some to retain freshness further!
